Yusuf Khan was born in Peshawar in 1922 in a Pathan Family of 12 children.His father was a fruit merchant in Peshawar and he later on moved to Mumbai and set up business here. His brothers are Nasir Khan, Ehsan Khan and Aslam Khan. They live in Mumbai. His sister Farida lives in California. Khan adopted the screen name of Dilip Kumar for his first film Jwar Bhatta released in 1944. Dilip Kumar married actress and beauty queen Saira Banu in 1966. He was the most successful actor of the 40s and 50s and had great success as the legend of Bollywood.He is known as the Tragedy King. He is the recipient of India's highest award for cinematic excellence, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award and also the Nishan-e-Pakistan, Pakistan's highest civilian award. Dilip Kumar is considered one of the best actors produced by the Hindi film industry. Dilip Kumar's style of acting is characterised by rich dialogues in Urdu and a poetic manner of delivery. His acting has influenced his successors and many actors look up to him and try to emulate his style. Dilip Kumar's 1960 film Mughal-e-Azam, which was originally released in black-and-white with some color scenes in the latter half of the film, was fully colourised in 2004 and re-released. Another one of his classic films Naya Daur was colourised and released in August 2007.
